My Learning List® will provide service/s to the community with respect and compassion while promoting creativity, curiosity, learning, fun, and encouraging growth through meaningful work.
My Learning List was founded in 2020 by Kitchie McBride, MHA. As a mother supporting her son with unique learning needs, the struggle of trying to fit her child into a restrictive and traditional model of education inspired her to start a nonprofit organization. The focus is to increase awareness about the benefits of individualized and self-directed learning and its impact on self-confidence and self-esteem.
She dedicated her time and resources to get My Learning List incorporated on May 21. 2020. A couple of weeks later, the newly established nonprofit received its 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service.
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced many families to educate their children at home, My Learning List launched a directory website with information and resources for homeschooling families looking to provide individualized education.
Then, My Learning List started a couple of Facebook groups that support ADHD & Homeschooling and a second group that discusses individualized and self-directed learning. At the same time, it started publishing blogs to educate, inspire, and inform families about the benefits of autonomy in learning.
My Learning List is also now hosting and coordinating Youth Leadership Programs by Toastmasters. The goal is to help young people develop public speaking and communication skills.
Trying to fit a unique learner into a standard program can be very challenging. The child may feel inadequate or lacking the skills to become successful, negatively impacting self-confidence. At the same time, parents feel pressured to take extra steps so their child meets a particular grade level or a performance comparable to others. If this situation persists, it may negatively affect the parent-child relationship. Sometimes, all we need is to see things in a different light.
Instead of trying to fit a learner into a program, what if we find ways to modify the program to work around an individual’s unique learning needs? And if it is also self-led, the learner can explore and work on activities they love. What could be a better motivator than individualized and self-directed learning?
If you can choose what to learn, you tend to become better or are more likely to improve at what you do.
And if you are good or great at what you do, you develop a sense of purpose. It boosts your self-confidence, and it increases your self-esteem.
You tend to build more positive relationships. And when everything feels so good, you are more likely to help others.
So, My Learning List is reaching out to families, encouraging them to look at their kids’ abilities differently. We hope to help parents understand how honoring a child’s learning choices can significantly impact their self-confidence and self-esteem.
Can you imagine what a world could be if we have more people with increased self-esteem and positive relationships?
Remember, when you feel good inside, you tend to look for ways to help others.

Born and raised in the Carolinas, I had the opportunity to live and travel up and down the eastern seaboard. Additionally, my family lived in Liberia, West Africa, for about four years while I was in elementary school. Upon returning to the States, we were shifted into the public-school system. During part of my intermediate and high school years, I had the opportunity to be homeschooled. This helped hone my skills in independent learning and self-motivated education. As an experienced analyst with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & health care industry, I had the opportunity to use my abilities in Hawaii. My skills include accounting, analytics, statistical analysis, communication, team building, and management. I also recently completed my Doctor of Health Administration degree focused on Health Administration from the University of Phoenix. I am excited about this opportunity to support My Learning List's mission of providing assistance, resources, and information for individualized and self-directed learning.

Hello, my name is Kitchie, and I'm a life-long self-directed learner. I obtained a medical doctor degree from Manila, Philippines. And later on, a Master's Degree in Health Administration & Informatics in the US, where I currently reside as a non-practicing physician. Before becoming the President and Founder of My Learning List, I have developed broad, substantial work experience in many healthcare industry disciplines, including laboratory sciences, clinical medicine, finance, information technology, business development, and marketing. My community involvement started many years ago when I participated in medical missions. In the past years, I've been volunteering in educating seniors about Medicare fraud and understanding Medicare. My blessings include a beautiful family. My son is also a self-led learner who has an exciting, compelling gift in visual arts and unique learning opportunities. So, I understand the importance of a distinctive education path. This experience has ignited my passion for individualized and self-directed education. It is a learning that benefits every student of various abilities, empowered by their unique interests and talents. So, be free to explore and discover, process all data and information. Take what is meaningful to you and come up with something new. The natural development of skills and abilities builds self-confidence and boosts self-esteem. After all, we will learn what we want to learn to do what we want to do.

Almost all of the skills I used to run a business and a nonprofit, I learned on my own. In my experience, it's all about understanding what I want to do. Which helped guide me on what I want to learn. I'm looking forward to supporting My Learning List's mission and expanding our reach to increase awareness about the benefits of individualized and self-directed learning.
